Trustee Opportunities

Cerebral Palsy Sport is the country’s leading national disability sports organisation supporting people with cerebral palsy to reach their sporting potential and putting people with cerebral palsy and their families at the heart of everything we do.

Cerebral Palsy Sport Board

Cerebral Palsy Sport is governed by a Board of Trustees that bring a range of skills in supporting the organisation with governance decisions. The Board of Trustees consists of up to twelve independent individuals with a range of skills and competencies across key sectors that enables Cerebral Palsy Sport to operate as an effective strategic national disability sports organisation (NDSO), charity and a Limited company.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring it performs well. Because of the charity’s significant role in the development of the sport, being a Trustee is a position of influence and great responsibility, now and for future generations.

Trustees are people who care passionately about Cerebral Palsy Sport and who recognise the vital contribution the organisation makes to the lives of people with disabilities.

Non-Executive Directors / Trustees

Cerebral Palsy Sport, the country’s leading national disability sports charity, is looking for inspiring Trustees to join our Board.

At CP Sport, we aim to ensure that everyone has access to the benefits that taking part in sport can bring. We host regional and national competitions across a range of sports and adapted sport and support people towards Paralympic pathways. Just as importantly, we work with partners across the county to provide opportunities for people with cerebral palsy and other impairments to enjoy sport and active recreation at all levels, sometimes for the first time.

We are at an important stage in our journey. We are about to launch a new, ambitious strategy, building on our values and challenging ourselves to continually improve our ‘personal best’, to ensure that everyone with cerebral palsy has the opportunity to enjoy sport and active recreation.

Inspired by our beneficiaries, our Board is committed to continually improving our own performance, working together with our operational staff as ‘Team CP Sport’. Our Board meets 6 times each year, with one Board Awayday. In addition, we may require your participation on a committee or time-limited task force. We encourage attendance at events – and our trustees often say this is the most inspiring and rewarding part of the role!

We ask our trustees to make a commitment to Cerebral Palsy Sport, to devote the necessary time, strategic vision, independent judgement, creatively and willingness to speak your mind. We are committed to equal opportunities and actively welcome applications from disabled people. In return, we offer an opportunity to develop your skills and experience as a trustee of a national charity, and, to make a meaningful difference to the lives of our beneficiaries.

Ideally, the successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • A track record of meaningful roles in the private, public or voluntary sector
  • The ability to operate at Board level in a national organisation effectively
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically; the skills to challenge current thinking at Board level
  • The time commitment needed to make a difference to the Charity
  • A good understanding of the role that disability sport plays in society and a clear commitment to improving diversity and equality and understanding the needs of under-represented groups in sport
