Cerebral Palsy Sport is the country’s leading national disability sport organisation supporting people with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities to reach their sporting potential and putting people with cerebral palsy and their families at the heart of everything we do.

Our vision is to support people with cerebral palsy to reach their life potential through sport and active recreation.

Our mission is to improve quality of life for people with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities through sport, physical activity and active recreation.

Our aim is to raise aspirations, promote inclusion and support people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities to play, participate and enjoy sport and active recreation.

The range of our disabilities cover children, young people and adults with cerebral palsy and all related neurological conditions.

Cerebral Palsy Sport provides sports opportunities for people with cerebral palsy, individuals with neurological impairment with a motor control impairment of a cerebral nature causing a permanent and verifiable Activity Limitation.

The scope of our work covers people with:

  • Hypertonia (high muscle tone);
  • Spasticity (velocity-dependent resistance of a muscle to stretch);
  • Dystonia (Dystonia is an involuntary alteration in the pattern of muscle activation during voluntary movement or maintenance of posture Sustained or intermittent Muscle contractions.
  • Rigidity: (Rigidity is resistance to Passive movement and is independent of posture and speed of movement. rigidity is not specific to particular tasks or postures.)
  • Ataxia ( Control of movement)
  • Athetosis/Chorea ( Involuntary contractions of muscles )

These impairment types are associated with a range of conditions including, but not limited to, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, MS, Friedreich’s Ataxia, Spino-cerebellar Ataxia, Hereditary Spastic Diplegia/Paraplegia, and Dystonia.

We take account of the specific sports International Federations and IPC when reviewing and accepting entries into our events.

Connecting people with cerebral palsy to opportunities in sport and activity

Objectives:

  • To deliver and develop our core sporting offer to people with cerebral palsy to increase participation
  • Develop increased grass roots opportunities in identified areas across the country
  • To provide the first opportunity for inactive people with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities to access sport and activity.

Partnerships and Alliances Matter

Objectives:

  • Develop sustainable and effective partnerships with key sporting organisations.
  • Develop meaningful partnership with appropriate key organisations.
  • Develop stronger and effective partnerships with the corporate sector.
  • To undertake effective influencing with partners to advocate for the inclusion of people with cerebral palsy in sport.

Supporting Knowledge, Insight and Research

Objectives:

  • Maintaining our knowledge, insight and understanding of current policy, research and best practises standards relating to cerebral palsy.
  • Build our organisational understanding of the needs of members, families and adults with cp
  • Provide a platform and a voice for people with cerebral palsy
  • To continue to develop and implement effective monitoring and evaluation systems.

  • To raise the awareness of Cerebral Palsy Sport and what services we offer.

Objectives:

  • To create more opportunities for participating in sport and activity for people with cerebral palsy to reach more adults and older people, women and girls, ethnic minorities, volunteers, coaches and the Education Sector.

  • To increase the range and reach of our membership schemes.
  • To increase and support appropriate pathways for participants into developmental international competitions.
