James Shaw

James was born on 10th June 1995 in Nottingham, for many weeks he was put under intensive care after being diagnosed with cerebral palsy which was said to be caused from being born two months premature. After being released from hospital, not knowing how his condition would affect him in later life, James was put under regular physio care and had various operations to correct the positioning of his legs and increase the flexibility of his muscles. By doing this he is able to walk a small amount using crutches but has to use a wheelchair for the most part.

In 2002 (age 7) James went to an event called ‘wheels 2000’ where he met many other wheelchair users and got a chance to try out a variety of para-sports. Initially James was interested in playing Basketball but with the Nottingham Tennis Centre being only ten minutes away from his family home he found a tennis club much easier.

James went on to become the youngest GB Quad singles and doubles National Champion the nation has seen.

James is building on the success that he has had so far in wheelchair tennis.

CP Sport are proud to have James as an ambassador, he has been a guest speaker at our virtual cafes and we enjoy working with James and inspiring more young people to play Tennis and reach their sporting potential.
