CP Sport Athletics coach, Andy Ball, is running in this year's Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 25th April
in aid of CP Sport.
I know your support will mean a lot to Andy and help him to keep going during this gruelling challenge.
Please show your support for Andy and CP Sport by sponsoring him - go to Andy's
online fundraising page.
CP Sport provides opportunities for anyone with cerebral palsy who wishes to
be involved in athletics regardless of age or ability.
At the Paralympics in Beijing, fifteen members of CP Sport were selected for
the Great Britain Athletics Team. It was a fantastic achievement for those athletes to be
selected, and further congratulations go to these athletes who gained medals:
| Chris Martin | Silver F33 Discus | Paralympic Record | 28.37m
| | Stephen Miller | Silver F32 Club | Seasons Best | 34.37m
| | Ben Rushgrove | Silver T36 100m | | 12.35
| | Hazel Simpson | Bronze T36 100m | | 15.40
| | | Bronze T36 200m | | 32.43

During the year several training days are held and new athletes are invited
to these. It gives them an opportunity to chat to and train alongside, more experienced athletes.
Everyone has the opportunity to reach their potential and make their dreams a reality. CP Sport
has a team of dedicated athletics coaches who are there to support and train the athletes.
A National Championships is held once a year in Nottingham and regional
competitions as part of the Grand Prix Series are held in five venues round the country. These
competitions are open to all athletes with cerebral palsy and other impairment groups.
Athletics Development
CP Sport also delivers athletics development days in schools. These provide
the students with the basics techniques required for track and field events and an indoor
athletics competition is included as part of the day.
Club Links
CP Sport keeps a database of athletics clubs. As an exit route from the
development days and training days, athletes are linked to a local club so they can train
regularly. Advice is also given to coaches in main stream clubs to help them cater for people
with cerebral palsy within their club.
Links with UK Athletics & England Athletics
CP Sport works closely with UKA and England Athletics to ensure that
athletes are identified and given relevant opportunities for future development.
Regular meetings are held with UKA and the other national impairment groups
with a focus on athletics.
Christine Cruice:
- It is with great sadness that CP Sport informs everyone of the passing away of
Christine Cruice on 16th September. Christine made a huge contribution to CP Sport over many
years both as Chairman of the Board and International Classifier. Many more tributes to Christine will
follow but CP Sport would like to assure Esther, Norman and family of their thoughts at this sad time.
Christine was a wonderful lady who will be missed by us all.
