CP Sport provides a range of athletics opportunities starting from a
grass root introduction to a senior competitive level for anyone with cerebral palsy
regardless of age or ability.
During the winter months three training days are held and new athletes are invited to attend. There is an opportunity to converse with and train alongside more experienced athletes. Everyone has the opportunity to reach their potential and make their dreams a reality.
CP Sport has a team of dedicated athletics coaches who are there to support, train and offer
advice to all athletes.
CP Sport organises a Country-wide competitive calendar which is held at five different venues around England incorporating the CP Grand Prix Series. These competitions are open to all athletes with cerebral palsy and other physical impairment groups, whether they are newcomers to the sport or paralympians. A National Championships is held once a year towards the end of the season in Nottingham.
Athletics Development
CP Sport has recently employed dedicated athletics development officers to implement the strategic athletic plan.
Delivery will commence at a grass root opportunity followed on with specific athletic development days.
The programme will provide young athletes with the basic techniques required for track and field events and an indoor athletics competition is included as part of the day wherever possible.
The initial introduction will hopefully give young athletes the confidence and opportunity to progress towards competing in the CP Grand Prix events and CP National Championships.
Classification
Athletes compete in classifications T31 - T38 and F31 - F38.
CP Sport have a panel of CP National classifiers, as part of the strategic
plan we will be developing this very important area of work to try and offer classification
at most events.
Club Links
CP Sport keep a database of athletics clubs and in consultation with relevant organisations offer advice to any individual seeking further opportunities either as an enquiry or exit route from the development days and training days.
Advice is also given to coaches in mainstream clubs to help them cater for people with cerebral palsy within their club.
Links with UK Athletics & England Athletics
CP Sport works closely with UKA and England Athletics to ensure that supported athletes and coaches are informed and given relevant opportunities for future development.
