BOCCIA EDUCATION COURSES:
The courses are sanctioned by the England and Wales Boccia Association
(CP Sport) and are delivered by accredited tutors.
Currently there are two courses offered:
- Boccia Leaders Award - Community Boccia Course (formerly Level One)
- Boccia Teachers Award - a course aimed at the educational sector, teachers,
teaching assistants and adults other than teachers.
1. Boccia Leaders Award:
Course duration: a 4 / 41/2 hour course with a requirement to deliver 2 hours
of boccia to achieve accreditation. (This is self-certified)
The course aims to provide individuals involved at community and recreational levels with a basic
understanding of the sport.
It is suitable for community workers, leaders and individual players (e.g. those involved in
Local Authority Youth Games, individuals and staff of residential homes, sports clubs - boccia specific and multi-sport,
after-school clubs etc.)
The course will equip delegates to:
- Introduce and teach the game of boccia, understand basic rules and the interpretation of rules
- Lead boccia sessions with an appropriately structured activity plan and in accordance with health and safety requirements
- Be aware of the needs of individuals and the empowerment of all players
- Teach basic skill practices to players
- Introduce creativity and fun sessions
- Have an understanding of the existing competitive structures to enable individuals to progress in the sport
The course fee is £350 plus tutor travel at 30p per mile or standard class rail fare.
CP Sport will provide: Tutor, delegate booklets and resources and certification.
The booking of an appropriate venue and the enrolment of delegates is the responsibility of the organiser
of the course. Boccia balls (2 sets) should also be provided by the course organiser.
Between 10 and 20 delegates is a desirable number - with 20 as a maximum.
2. Boccia Teachers Award.... (Approved by Sports Coach U.K. and BAALPE)
Course duration: a 6 hour course with a requirement to deliver 2 hours of boccia in a
school / after school club to achieve accreditation. (This is self-certified)
The course introduces schools to the benefits of boccia as an inclusive activity with a view to increasing
the engagement of pupils with disabilities and special needs in sport and recreational activities.
The course will equip participants to:
- Identify inclusion issues within PE and school sport
- Gain an understanding of the use of a non-traditional activity to widen the curriculum experience, providing effective
learning opportunities for all pupils as specified within the National Curriculum
- Create solutions for inclusion within PE and school sport through engagement in the sport of boccia, for example,
- setting suitable learning challenges
- responding to the diverse learning needs of individual pupils
- helping to overcome potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils, particularly
for individuals with a disability and special education needs.
- Teach the game and boccia skill practices
- Gain an understanding of how boccia fits within the four strands of the national curriculum
- Identify and understand how boccia can be utilised to contribute towards an increase in the number of pupils, and particularly
those with disabilities, taking part in a minimum of two hours of high quality PE and school sport each week within and beyond
the curriculum
Participation in the sport can contribute towards the improvement of an individual in the following areas:
- progress and attainment across the curriculum
- citizenship and leadership qualities
- technical performance in school sport
The course fee is £275 plus a delegate rate of £15 per person, plus tutor travel at 30p per mile or
standard class rail fare.
Please note we will charge for a minimum of 10 delegates and a maximum of 15 ---- although up to 20 delegates may attend the course.
CP Sport will provide: Tutor, delegate booklets and resources and certification of delegates.
The booking of an appropriate venue and the enrolment of delegates is the responsibility of the organiser of
the course, as is the provision of at least 2 sets of boccia balls.

Boccia Referee Courses (Levels 1 and 2)
Level 1: Community level
Level 2: National Referee level
The courses aim to provide individuals with an understanding of the principles of boccia officiating and
will explore the following areas:
- Terminology, Roles and Equipment
- Officiating: competition rules, management responsibility.
