The finalists were Ray Smith and George Ridgeon, after a tough match but in great style,
Ray emerged the 2010 DBE Masters winner. A much deserved title as Ray is one of the longest serving of the
present members of DBE.
It was a really well contested tournament with some excellent bowling and many very close scores.
The atmosphere was great and, as always, so were the wonderful bunch of helpers. A good time was had by all!
FESTIVE BOWLS INTERNATIONAL WEEK AT POTTERS LEISURE RESORT NORFOLK, DECEMBER 2010
This is the 5th or 6th year that a group of disabled bowlers have taken part in this event at Potters.
Initially the group was made up of mainly CP bowlers but now includes all disabilities and this year they were joined
by several members of Gedling IBC who help at the disability events held at Gedling IBC through the year.
It is a wonderful week for bowlers and spectators alike. Potters has many other activities going on
during the week if you are not bowling, each night there is entertainment and the food is good and plentiful.
What more could you want!
Usually we have entered approximately 6 teams of four bowlers and there are normally
90 plus teams in the tournament.
The highlight of this years event was that one of our teams WON the whole event and have been
invited back to play in the Champion of Champions event early next year.
The winning team were George Pierrepoint, Nottingham - Mac Otton, Warwick -
Bill Blaney, Nottingham and Bob Love, Birmingham.
This has to be good for the profile of disability bowls!
A great time was had by all !
THE ANN TROTMAN SINGLES TOURNAMENT, FEBRUARY 2011
The Ann Trotman trophy was donated by Mr Arthur Day of Gedling IBC in memory of a wonderful lady who was
one of the founder members of the CP Sport bowls squad. Ann was a true pioneer of disability bowls and went on to become the
CP ISRA Bowls Co-ordinator and member of the IPC Bowls Committee representing cerebral palsy bowlers.
Prior to taking up bowls, Ann had been a 'many times' Paralympic Champion in swimming, athletics and
field events. She died tragically in February 1997 in Nottingham whilst attending a planning meeting for the 1997
International Robin Hood Games for people with cerebral palsy, strokes and head injuries.
This singles competition is now open to all disability groups as Ann also believed in promoting multi-disability
events. This year the date clashed with the BWBA pairs event at Stoke Manderville but despite that we still had 19 entries
which made for a plenty of excellent bowling and yet again many very close games.
The semi finalists were;
David Walker, Yorks v Bob Love, West Mids
David Fisher, Essex v Steve Clarke, Yorks
Finalists;
Bob Love v David Fisher
The winners Trophy was awarded to Bob Love, with a runners up trophy for David Fisher. The loosing semi-finalists received bronze medals.
The best CP bowler of the tournament gold medal was awarded to David Walker with the silver going to 18 year old Adam Summerscales from Barnsley.
Thanks go to the wonderful helpers at Gedling IBC, without their help these events would not be possible.
The next event at Gedling is the Plant Welding Triples , 11th and 12th June.
