Morag 'Mogsy' Ford
"I became involved in CP Sport last year
after obtaining my own place in the New York Marathon and deciding to run my first marathon in memory of my nephew,
Howard, who had cerebral palsy.
Howard is sadly no longer with us but I wanted to help others like him participate in sport and to raise money for
a charity involved with both cerebral palsy and sport. CP Sport seemed ideal. I only started running a couple of
years ago so this was a real challenge for me.
After a summer training on the cliffs in Bude with my dog Roxy, I managed to complete the marathon
and raised an incredible £1768 in sponsorship thanks to the kindness of friends, family and anyone else I could get to
sponsor me! I wish I'd done the New York shopping and sight seeing before the race though as my legs didn't feel
my own for some days after!
I think the Cornish air has got to me as I've now taken on a further challenge to run the
London Marathon on 13th April for CP Sport making it a second marathon in 6 months. With my friend
Kathy Lawrence, we’re
organising a charity auction and party night in Bude on 14th March to help raise funds - we have some
fabulous auction items and are hoping for a successful and fun evening.
We're also planning a charity fun run later in the year - a fancy dress 'Maids Run' so if you feel
like getting your pinnies out - ladies and men - come and join us in Cornwall!
Kathy and I recently came up to Nottingham for the Sports Weekend and Awards Dinner. It was great
to meet everyone and see the work that is being done and how the money raised is
helping. What I found very striking was the "family" atmosphere of the charity, the fun and sense of achievement of
all participating and how CP Sport provides an essential support network. It also gave us first hand experience of how
hard the CP Sport team and volunteers work to
provide this.
I hope everyone will look out for me on TV on 13th April - I'll have 'Mogsy' on my
CP Sport top and will wave at any camera I see! - I'm really proud to be running for the charity and know you'll be
cheering me on to reach the finishing line." Good luck Mogsy from everyone at CP Sport!
