Stephen Miller
is a member of CP Sport and has experienced great success in
athletics. Stephen has athetoid cerebral palsy which affects his balance and
coordination and results in lots of involuntary movements.
What are your sporting highlights?
Over my
career, I have competed in 4 Paralympic Games, winning 3 gold medals and a silver in consecutive games in
the club, at Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing. I also won the bronze in discus at the Sydney Paralympics.
I am currently 3 times World Champion in the club, winning in Birmingham 1998, Lille 2002 and Assen 2006.
Before Beijing I held the world record in the club for 11 years. The highlights of my career are winning my
three Paralympic titles, but competing in a full stadium in Beijing and
throwing a personal best with my last throw to win silver was a very special moment.
How has CP Sport helped you?
CP Sport started me off in sport, they saw my potential
from a young age and gave me the opportunity to train with good coaches and to compete. I was given my first
international vest by CP Sport at the age of 15, and it was through that I managed to qualify for the Paralympics.
They gave me the opportunities and chances which are so important when you're starting out. My
development was helped greatly by CP Sport who gave me the
support, resources and belief to go on to be successful.
How are you helping CP Sport?
I have always tried to help CP Sport throughout my career.
I have held 2 fundraising nights at my local social club and speak on behalf of CP Sport at various dinners and
functions, promoting the cause whenever I can.
