Sue Dunster
has a lot to be proud of. Her daughter Sarah is a member of CP Sport and has competed in athletics at European
and World Championships. Sue and Sarah have been a source of invaluable help to the charity for many years, putting
in literally hundreds of hours of voluntary support.
How did you get involved in C P Sport?
I used to go along to events to accompany Sarah, then I started making tea for some of the
officials. At Boccia events I was asked to help in various ways and eventually became a referee and coach. I
served on the Board of Trustees for C P Sport for 3 years. I also collect at supermarkets and marshal the Great
Nottinghamshire Bike Ride. I enjoy
supporting events such as the Bright and Beautiful Spring Ball and Evenings at
Ragdale Hall, not to mention selling diaries and raffle tickets. I just change the group of people I approach
each time.
What do you like about helping C P Sport?
Knowing that the money raised helps young people with disabilities achieve goals they otherwise
would not have been able to reach. Meeting up with the many friends I have made over the years at the various
events I have attended. I have met so many people and have been given the opportunity to travel. Volunteering in
the office has helped me to get back into the workplace and be in the job that I have now. The Ladies Fellowship
at The Church on Rise Park of which I am a member name a different charity each year and I was pleased to be able
to nominate C P Sport and they raised a huge amount of money. Through being a member of C P Sport Sarah has
achieved so many things, building up her self-esteem and confidence as well as enabling her to travel to Russia,
Holland, Prague and America. Sarah has competed in European and World Athletics Championships breaking world
records and bringing back many gold medals. This has led her to become a sports coach, gaining many coaching
qualifications and Sarah now coaches able bodied athletes at Notts AC.
