London to Paris Bike Ride, 5th - 8th July 2007
Treve Ripley and Sean Cornell went a long way to raise funds for CP Sport! Treve and Sean took
part in the challenge of a life time and cycled from London to Paris, raising over £5,000 in sponsorship. What a
magnificent achievement. Treve Sean and have made a huge difference to the charity.
Here is Treve's story...
Why did you decide to take on a challenge for CP Sport?
I got talking to one of my neighbours who had a son with CP and is in a wheelchair. I checked
some cycle rides our and found one leaving on July 5th (my birthday), and that seemed spot on. As it was an open
charity ride, we could designate our own charity and CP Sport seemed like the perfect fit.
How did you raise sponsorship?
We raised sponsorship in the usual ways by asking friends and family. We also sold advertising
space on our cycle shirts which raised £1,200. We had an 80s party that was free to existing sponsors but £10 per
ticket to others. This raised a further £800. Sean going round with a bucket at the end of the night asking for
all loose change added a significant £100+ to the total.
What did you enjoy about the event?
We met some great people and the organisation was first class, with all food, transport and
accommodation laid on, and even when we lost a day stranded on a ferry across the channel, the guides re-planned
our final route into Paris marking ou final day a 100 mile extravaganza finishing at the Arc de Triomphe!
What level of fitness did you need before training?
It was a tough challenge. Participants were split into groups of ability so not everyone there
was a budding Lance Armstrong (although there were a few that tried, not us I hasten to add). It certainly gave us
the bug for more, and if the Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride hadn't been so close to our departure date, we would
have come up to Nottingham for that one. Still there's always next year!

Ann and Ian McLean's Stratford to Nottingham Bike Ride, June 2006
On Sunday 4th June 2006, Ann and Ian McLean, set off on a fundraising challenge for CP Sport.
They cycled from their home in Stratford-upon-Avon to CP Sport's Nottingham Office and raised a massive
£1350 in sponsorship for the charity.
Ian and Ann took the scenic route along 120 miles of the National Cycle Route and are grateful to
Sustrans, the organisation who have created this network. They would also like to thank their old friends of more than
30 years, John and Carole Mayes, who provided logistical support throughout the journey.
Ian and Ann would like to thank everyone who sponsored them including Coventry University Charities
Group who provided £500 matched funding.
Ian and Ann had a great time on their bike ride and saw beautiful areas of the country that
they had never seen before.

Why not take inspiration from this story and organise your own bike ride in aid of Cerebral
Palsy Sport. It could be anything from a short ride with family and friends to taking on a
Charity Challenge for CP Sport.
Rob Walton and Friends' Glasgow to Inverness Bike Ride, April 2006
Rob Walton and friends raised over £400 for
CP Sport cycling from Glasgow to Inverness in April.
The bike ride is part of their challenge to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats. A big thank you goes to all the
team who took part helping to raise vital funds and awareness of CP Sport.
