CP Sport has six National Development Officers whose role is to develop and implement
a programme of events and coaching opportunities. Activities in a variety of sports are delivered
from grass roots level.
The Development Officers mainly work with children and students between 5 and 19.
Opportunities are provided for people with cerebral palsy or a physical disability.
Recent events have been: multi sports days, sport-specific days in athletics,
table cricket and football and swimming development days.
The Development Officers' work includes:
- Research into areas for new development and extension of opportunities within existing priority
sports under CP Sport's remit (athletics, boccia, football, table cricket and swimming).
- Adaptation of sports for those with a severe disability.
- Attending national events organized by CP Sport and other agencies.
- Developing links with schools, clubs, hospitals as well as individuals.
- Forging links with external agencies delivering similar programmes.
- Providing advice to teachers and students about GCSE P.E. and including disabled students in
PE lessons.
The National Development Officers can provide a day to meet the
requirements of a school or club.
