Multi Sports Days 2011
Friday 4th November, 2011
Play Football, Blackpool
CP Sport made a return trip to Blackpool for a Multi Sports Day on 4th November
at the invitation of Highfurlong School.
The previous day CP Sport Table Cricket Tutors delivered a table cricket course to 15 sports leaders
from St Mary's School, The Collegiate and Highfurlong School. These leaders then helped deliver the sports at the multi sports day.
The day was attended by 21 children between the ages of 5 and 19.The children were from four schools
in the area and some came as individuals. After a warm up game of big ball football and beach ball activities, the
children were split into 3 teams. They visited 3 bases to learn the necessary skills for athletics, boccia, and table cricket.
Points were gained for the team. 75% of the participants were wheelchair users, so the activities were adapted to meet their
needs and provide a meaningful experience for all.
Lunch time provided a time for mixing and getting to know new friends. Some children had a competitive
game of boccia. Students from Highfurlong School had made a delicious buffet lunch. The youngest children in the school
had also taken part in a special day in school, so the day really was a whole school effort.
Parents and teachers took the opportunity to speak with CP Sport staff and other parents to find out
what opportunities are available for their children to participate in sport.
We were pleased to welcome representatives from First Group who had sponsored the day. A very special
guest was Bloomfield the Blackpool Football Club Mascot who attended the day. He had a go at batting and bowling in
table cricket.
All too soon the day ended, everyone received medals and went home knowing there were other sporting
opportunities for them with CP Sport.
Hopefully many of the children will make the most of contacts given and continue with their chosen sport
and become involved in CP Sport events.
Sue Todd CP Sport is very grateful for the support of the head teacher at Highfurlong, for Sharon Todd
for coordinating the event and the sports leaders from the college and school who supported the day.
