‘Night Rider’ Tom tackles the steepest hill in the Rickshaw Challenge!

Thomas Stamp, part of BBC Children in Need Team Rickshaw 2019 was the chose rider to tackle the steepest street in the World on Saturday 9th November.

Thomas, a keen sportsman who has been nicknamed ‘Night Rider’ by Team Rickshaw because he’s often doing the late shift, rode up the steepest street in the world, in Harlech, a seaside resort within the Snowdonia National Park. The minor road – Ffordd Pen Llech – has a gradient of 37.45%.

Thomas along with five others have taken on this eight – day challenge from Holyhead to London by Rickshaw, and also includes Flash, the highest village in the UK . They will finish on Friday 15th November at the BBC Elstree Studios during the BBC Children in Need Appeal Show.

Thomas has cerebral palsy, autism and ADHD. Throughout his life bullying has been a persistent issue. Thomas was slow to develop as a toddler and over the years has needed operations and regular physio. Thomas has always been a keen sportsman and playing sport has provided him with an escape from the difficulties in his life. Thomas has been supported by Cerebral Palsy Sport which receives funding from BBC Children in Need to give young people with cerebral palsy the chance to access training and regular sporting events. Through his involvement with the charity he has competed in the CISPRA Games and won silver medals in 100m and 200m running. Thomas says being involved with the organisation has been life changing. Tom has overcome many hurdles, including bullying.

Thomas’s Mum Sarah says “Don’t let yesterday change your today”. 

Thomas says he is really honoured to be representing Cerebral Palsy Sport Sport and Children in Need.

“It’s hard work, we’re very busy but it is truly enjoyable. The support from the people really help keep them going. The team are truly determined and will keep on pedalling. Please keep giving if you can and thank you for all your support”.
