This weekend Cerebral Palsy Sport held three sports events across the country bringing new opportunities for young people with cerebral palsy.
On Saturday 28th January, Cerebral Palsy Sport joined forces with CP Teens and Sheffield FA to host an adapted sports taster session at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. This was an opportunity for current and new participants to come and “have a go” at either or both RaceRunning and Frame Football. 15 children and adults came to the day and had a fantastic time trying out the equipment and sports in a top sporting venue. It was great to have the support of Quest 88 getting people fitted with equipment and answering lots of questions.
Our Young Sporting Ambassador Ellie Simpson who was there with CP Teens said;
“Saturday was such a great day for lots of young people with Cerebral Palsy/physical disabilities to have a go at RaceRunning and Frame Football. It had a wonderful turnout and I really enjoyed going with my own RaceRunner and leading some of the activities to the children and young people who were trying RaceRunning for the first time. I also got to have a go at Frame Football myself, which was really funny as I wasn’t really very good at it but I had fun! Overall it was a very successful day for both CP Sport and CP Teens UK!”
On the same day, we held a swimming development gala in Winchester. 28 people took part from ages 5-27, across our 9 events. It was fantastic to have the Mayor and Mayoress of Eastleigh attend and chat with our swimmers and parents. We had attendees who travelled from as far as Chesterfield and Suffolk. Our development galas are extremely popular because they are an excellent introduction to competitive swimming.
And finally on Sunday 29th January, Cerebral Palsy Sport delivered a Frame Football KickStart session in Carlisle jointly with Cumbria Frame Football Club and Cumberland FA, catering for 6 young people, and helping support the club with their ongoing programme.
