For the first time Cerebral Palsy Sport held a joint swimming and RaceRunning training camp, alongside a coach development day. The event took place at Harvey Hadden Sports Village in Nottingham with participants travelling from all over England.
In the pool we had 17 swimmers aged 11-37, and 6 coaches who attended to learn more about cerebral palsy swimming. The swimming sessions were lead by a team of 4 expert coaches, Rebecca Gilbertson, Su Stanbridge, Ryan Crouch and Caroline Warlow. The morning session had a focus on stroke technique and in the afternoon the swimmers got to concentrate on their skills and turns where the coach development participants got to lead some of the activities and work closer with the swimmers.
The track was filled with 15 RaceRunners over the course of the day aged 6-21, and 3 coaches excited to learn more about RaceRunning. The morning saw a technical session in the indoor facility before taking to the outdoor track in the afternoon to focus on longer distances. Both sessions were led by Craig Carscadden, representing CPISRA, and Graham Felton. We were also able to give new athletes the opportunity to try RaceRunning for the first time in both our morning and afternoon sessions.
Between the practical sessions all participants attended communication and nutrition seminars lead by Fran Wilson (MSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition and England Cricketer) where they picked up lots of new tips and ideas to help them train and perform to the best of their potential.
