Cerebral Palsy Sport- BowlStart Event- Herefordshire- 15th January 2016
On Friday 15th January 2016; Cerebral Palsy Sport, in partnership with Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Leominster Indoor Bowling Club hosted a BowlStart taster event.
This event was the first of its kind in the area and was designed to help the bowls club become more inclusive. On the day 6 coaches from the bowls club came along to get a deeper insight on how to work with physically disabled bowlers.
The event focused on providing the coaches with the skills they need to adapt and create fun, skills based activities that engaged participants and develop the skills needed in a game of bowls. The coaches all got to have a go at the different adapted games that were laid out on the day to get a feel for the type of sessions that they would need to plan in the future. They then had a go at altering or creating their own activity.
The second hour saw participants from a local community centre join in a take part in the session. The coaches worked closely with the participants to provide them with a taster of how to play bowls and how to enjoy the adapted games to help develop their skills.
A big thank you to Sue Bentley from Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, who helped organise a coordinate the day as well as all of the coaches from Leominster Indoor Bowling Club, they gave up their own time to come and support the day and offer their coaching expertise.
Moving forward the coaches at the club are looking to take their skills out in to the community to deliver bowls at a variety of different community hubs and clubs as well as running a regular disability session at the clubs itself. Leominster Indoor Bowling Club are happy to welcome anyone into the club and offer great support to anyone with a disability. For more information please contact:
