CP Sport provides opportunities for anyone with cerebral palsy who wishes to be involved in
swimming regardless of age or ability.
CP Sport is very proud of the achievements of the team who represented England and Wales
in the Paralympics in Beijing and returned with a handsome haul of medals. The recipients of many of the

During the year several training days are held for elite swimmers and development
days for new and developing swimmers.
A National Championships is held once a year in Nottingham and a Development Gala
in Leek. It is proposed to hold more regional galas during 2009.
Swimming Development
Jill Stidever, our swimming co-ordinator, has worked with swimmers with
cerebral palsy for many years and currently coaches people at all levels. Jill delivers development
days aimed at parents, teachers, teaching assistants, swimming coaches, and volunteers. The days comprise
of a theory and practical workshop. These days give assistants the opportunity to work with the swimmer
in the water as well as the more conventional poolside.
Club Links
CP Sport keeps a database of swimming clubs. As an exit route from the
Development Days and Galas swimmers are linked to a local club so they can swim regularly.
Links with Amateur Swimming (British Swimming)
CP Sport works closely with British Swimming and a two-way process between the
two organizations ensures that swimmers are identified and provided for, at the relevant level to
their ability at Swim 21 clubs or within specialized disability groups.
Classification
At present CP Sport Swimming use
IPC classification at their swimming
competitions.
