Samworth Charity Challenge 2013

CP Sport were very lucky to have a team of four fundraisers compete in the Samworth Charity Challenge 2013.

Forty teams took part to complete the course on foot, in canoes and on bikes and to raise the most money for their chosen charities.

The charity challenge event brings together The Samworth Brothers employees, customers and suppliers, with the aim of getting as much out of it for the charities supported, as each individual will get on a personal level.

Team member David Green tells us about his experience ‘It was a very hot day in Loch Lomond when the event started, ahead 70km of canoe, mountain and bike. The first event was the canoe section. After an early 6.30am breakfast we were sat in the canoes by 7.15am ready to head off to different islands on the Loch collecting points. Additional points were awarded at several ‘optional’ events. Abseiling, open water dive and open water swim, all of which were completed. We also had an orienteering challenge on one of the islands, which was a 4km run. We canoed back to shore with time to spare in our three hour period.

We then drove ½ an hour to Ben Lomond and attempted the climb to the summit before traversing across and heading down the other side trying to pick up as many station points as possible in the three hour time period. The penalties for finishing outside the three hours were harsh. A quick bite to eat and we headed back to Ross Priory for the bike section.

By 3pm we were ready to set off again from the Ross Priory base camp for the mountain bike route. 45km through local roads and forest tracks searching out more hidden checkpoints. We met up with a couple of Gold and Bronze medalists along the way (Alistair and Jonny Brownlee) at another additional station offering us more points for testing our Archery skills. The final 10km hit us hard and we finally reached the finish line eight minutes late – the penalty was 25% of our hard earned points.

The whole event took us just over 11 hours. We raised around £3k between our two charities and the event in total raised around £330k’.

Thank you so much to David Green, Chris Underwood, Ben Millett and Anton Newell for completing such a great challenge and raising vital funds for CP Sport. If this has inspired you to complete a challenge please get in touch with our fundraising team fundraising@cpsport.org or 0115 925 2620.
