CP Sport Patron Basher Hassan organised his 11th Charity Golf Day on Wednesday September 11th at Oakmere Park Golf Club, Nottinghamshire.
25 teams took part and had a great day despite the weather! The event was a huge success raising over £8,000.
Thank you to everyone that entered a team and to all the event sponsors:
- Nottingham VW
- Champions UK
- HD Civils
- Cope Jewellers
- Portland Fishing Lakes
The golf day included a special event, “Basher’s club throw.” Here Basher attempted to beat Paralympic champion Stephen Miller’s club throw distance. The sport of club throwing is similar to that of hammer throwing, but uses a wooden club, lighter than the usual hammer. Club throwing is an event specifically for athletes with cerebral palsy, often catering for the more severely affected athletes. However these athletes should by no means be underestimated, as they succeed in throwing some incredible distances.
Basher’s attempt was an impressive distance of 31 metres but this couldn’t compete with Stephen’s record of 36 metres. It made us all appreciate how challenging the sport is!
The date of Basher Hassan’s next Charity Golf Day in aid of CP Sport is Wednesday September 10th 2014 at Oakmere Park Golf Club. To enter a four ball team is £180.00. This includes refreshments on arrival, dinner and a prize presentation.
