CP Sport: Events Update

It has been a challenging time for sport over the last few months and at CP Sport we were looking forward to a packed summer of sport from Start sessions to National Championships.

We are revising how our events calendar will look for the remainder of 2020 and the plans we have put in place to continue our work.

2020 Events with CP Sport

At Home Superheroes – 15 June – 15 July

Launching today across the UK (and indeed further afield) is the At Home Superheroes! Five teams are already taking part and fundraising for CP Sport in this fantastic event. This fun at home virtual event replaces the mass participation event Superheros Tri which normally takes place at Dorney Lake every year. Get your cape on and get involved in this suggested 20km distance event for a team of 3 superheroes! Click here for more information.

CP Cafe – every Thursday

We have joined with CP Teens to host a CP Coffee and Chat on Zoom every Thursday. This is aimed at people with cp who with find both organisations relevant to them. A social opportunity and a chance to find out more about both organisations. Participants range from 13 – 25 (with under 18’s accompanied by a parent or carer). Register for the CP Sport & CP Teens Coffee & Chat (every Thursday) here

Virtual events – launch date tbc

We will be launching the CP Challenge Series very soon to encourage people to keep active in the absence of the traditional events we normally deliver. This series will take place right though to the end of 2020 and early 2021 and will help keep participants motivated to achieve goals and targets.

CP Sport Rental Service – launch date tbc

We are delighted with the response we have had so far at the mention of this new service. Soon we will be starting a rental service in partnership with Quest 88 so we can loan specialist equipment such as RaceRunners and Game Frames to help people to get started in sport and activity.

Cancelled events

Many sporting events continue to be affected by Covid-19, and we continue to follow guidance from NGB’s in relation to our core events programme:

Athletics: Last week UK Athletics cancelled all athletics event licences for 2020 so we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel our CP Series Athletics event in Doncaster on 15th August and our National Championships at Stoke Mandeville on 13th September.

Swimming: Swim England have now cancelled all competitive events for 2020 so unfortunately we are unable to deliver any competitive swimming events this year.

Football: The football league was declared null and void at a special general meeting for the league. The league committee are in the planning stages for next season but we don’t have a start date as yet. We will be taking guidance from the FA and government and will only return to play when it is safe to do so.

Fundraising events: The 2020 Great North Run (13th September) and Great Manchester Run (6th September) are both now cancelled this year. If you were planning on taking part on behalf of CP Sport and want to discuss next years’ events please contact us here

The safety of our participants and their families is our priority and as soon as it is safe to do so we will return to delivering events on the ground and across the country.  As we do gradually make the return to sport we will be taking guidance from National Governing Bodies of Sport and the Government.

Please refer to this guidance when deciding what is right for you in your return to sport and we hope that you will enjoy taking part in our virtual events and opportunities.
