On 01 December we held the inaugural National Table Cricket Community League Finals Day at the famous Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in Nottingham. The venue was transformed into 2 amphitheatres of table cricket and the cricketing gladiators from across the country came together to battle it out to become the first National Champions.
6 teams arrived and with a buzz of excitement the games began, group 1 made up of Linkage Leopards from North Lincolnshire, Ayrshire House from South Lincolnshire, St Ives Rangers from Huntingdonshire and Exeter Special Olympics from Devon. Group 2 had become a head to head battle between Portland College from Nottinghamshire and Sutton Coldfield TCC representing Warwickshire.
Group 1 produced to some very entertaining cricket but was more memorable for the sporting behaviour of all the teams involved and the real camaraderie between the players and supporters from each team no matter what the result. It came to a showdown between Ayrshire House and St Ives Rangers, for a place in the Final, with St Ives Rangers just edging it to take top spot and qualify for the final.
Group 2 provided some terrific table cricket and Portland and Sutton Coldfield produced outstanding performances as they slugged it out. There was a narrow victory for Portland.
The final attracted a large crowd of spectators as they moved in to the final over with everything still to play for as St Ives Rangers chased the target set by Portland College. The ebb flow continued as Portland took a wicket in the final over to throw the result back in to the balance but two late sixes from St Ives saw the Huntingdonshire team secure the championship.
To finish off the terrific day of sport all the teams, vips, volunteers and staff came together for the presentations of the medals and trophies and the community feel of the event was encapsulated in that moment.
It was a tremendous day of table cricket and CP Sport would like to thank everyone who was involved in making finals day such a success and look forward to seeing everyone again in 2014.
