Cerebral Palsy Sport have produced a new Boccia Games Resource that will allow anyone delivering Boccia to lead a range of fun, alternate games.
Boccia is disability sport that tests muscle control and accuracy. Players propel balls to land close to a target ball. It can be played by all ages and abilities and is a Paralympic sport.
The Boccia Games Resource provides a number of beginner, intermediate and advanced games that can be played using Boccia equipment. The purpose of the resource is to provide those who deliver and play Boccia with fun games that can be used alongside Boccia training, or as an addition to recreational sport and physical activity sessions.
The resource, developed with Mark Beeby Inclusive Multi Sport Coach, includes 22 session plans from, easy to medium, to hard levels. All games have been taken from mainstream sports such as football, cricket and tennis with names such as ‘Battleships’, ‘Noughts and Crosses’ and ‘Mine-Field’.
It is an ideal tool for teachers, coaches, parents, youth leaders, physiotherapists, children and young people.
The cost of the resource is £20 plus VAT and P & P and can be ordered here: BOCCIA RESOURCE Order form
Boccia balls and equipment can be purchased through our shop here
CP Sport is excited to announce that we will be working in partnership with Boccia England.
The partnership has been established to promote Boccia opportunities as well as the range of sports programmes and offers from CP Sport to both organsiations members and users.
Boccia England are the National Governing Body (NGB) for Boccia in England. They are responsible for all aspects of the sport in this country, from beginner to expert, providing for all levels of participation.
Boccia England’s five key priorities are:
- Promote participation in the sport;
- Empower our athletes to achieve their full potential;
- Provide a sustainable future for the sport;
- Support and develop our staff and volunteers;
- Develop and govern the sport
Working in partnership with CP Sport will support the NGB to achieve these priorities. To do this Boccia England will be supporting CP Sport SportStart programme.
Many of the athletes who take part in Boccia also take part in CP Sport activities with the benefits of taking part in duel sports highlighted in our latest ‘My Story’.
Beth is both a Boccia player and a Racerunner. when asked about how the to sports work together she said
“I feel my Boccia is going from strength to strength. I still do 2 PT sessions a week, Boccia training and hydrotherapy but I have added in RaceRunning and the benefits are clear; I am stronger, fitter and healthier, I get cardio-vascular exercise so my stamina has improved, my core and range of movement means I am both more still on court but I can also reach awkward shots, and then my concentration, focus and mood has improved, so has my attitude on court”.
