Start and Stay Active

About the Project

Cerebral Palsy Sport have a proven track record at providing sport and physical activity opportunities for people with cerebral palsy and physical disabilities. Our three year project (2017-2020) builds on this providing an opportunity for disabled people to ‘Start’ their sporting journey and supporting them to continue to ‘Stay Active’ throughout their life.

The project, funded by Sport England, builds on the strong partnerships Cerebral Palsy Sport have with National Governing Bodies, Active Partnerships (formerly County Sports Partnerships) and other national charities and third sector organisations to ensure there is a good offer of sport and activities that are fit for purpose for people with CP and physical disabilities.

The ‘Start’ element to the project provides introduction to sport sessions through our SportStart events and our adapted sport taster sessions. These are multisport events that include (but not limited to) RaceRunning, Frame Football and Table Cricket.

The ‘Stay’ element of the project allows those who take part in our ‘start’ sports programmes and events to continue to participate at local, regional and national camps and training days for athletics, swimming, football and table cricket events and competition. Here they continue develop their skills and abilities as well as their quality of life.

The project also allows us to continue to develop our engagement programme, using our young sporting ambassadors and CP Engage panel to ensure people with CP continue to be at the heart of what we do. We will continue to collate and share ‘My Story’ pieces inspiring others to get involved in sport and physical activity opportunities including participants, volunteers, coaches and supporters.
